Is That the Right Change?

Theo uses the receipt and a little subtraction.

Four one-dollar coins beside a ten-dollar note and a receipt for six dollars

Theo buys a notebook. Its full price is $6. He pays with a $10 note.

The change should be $10 − $6 = $4.

The cashier hands him $3 by mistake.

Theo checks the receipt and counts again. Then he politely asks the cashier to check. Together they find the missing dollar.

Change is the money returned when you pay more than the total price.

People can make mistakes. Checking doesn't mean accusing someone. If you're unsure, ask a trusted grown-up to help before leaving the shop.
