It’s on Sale. Should You Buy It?

A $5 discount sounds good. But you still have to spend $15.

A game controller beside a fifteen-dollar sale tag

A game used to cost $20. Now it costs $15. The sign shouts: SAVE $5!

If you already planned to buy that game, the sale could save you $5.

But what if you didn't want it before seeing the sign? Buying it still takes $15 out of your money. The shop doesn't give you $5 to keep.

A discount is a lower price. It can be useful, but you don't have to buy something just because it's on sale.

Ask yourself: “Do I want the game—or do I just like the sale sign?”

THE BIG IDEA

A sale lowers the price. Buying something you had not planned to buy still uses your money.
