Can Those Sneakers Really Make You Faster?

An ad makes a big promise. Here are three questions to ask before believing it.

A sneaker advertisement on a screen with an oversized claim

An ad says these sneakers will make you the fastest person at school. They also seem to make you glow. Hmm.

Advertising tries to make you interested in something. An ad may share useful facts, but it also wants you to like the product.

Before believing a big claim, ask:

  • What is the ad promising?
  • What proof does it show?
  • Would I want this without the ad?

You don't have to decide right away. Ask a trusted grown-up if a claim is confusing. It's fine to want the sneakers. It's also useful to spot how the ad works.
