A Price Tag Has a Growth Spurt

The tag got bigger. That isn’t the same as inflation.

“I've grown!” said the price tag.

“You were $4. Now you're $5,” said the shelf.

“No, I mean taller. Look at my new cardboard.”

A bigger price tag doesn't tell you what happened to prices. Even one higher number tells you only about that item.

Inflation means prices rise across many goods and services over time. You need more than one tag to check that.

The shelf is now measuring the cardboard.
